friends bumping elbows at fitness center

The YMCA of Greensboro is more dedicated than ever to ensuring the safety of staff and members. We recently participated in a study of YMCAs across the state to test the efficacy of our health protocols.

Those protocols include meeting or exceeding the guidelines and recommendations of local, state, and federal health experts. We have joined YMCA associations statewide in developing and implementing strict standards to mitigate exposure to COVID-19, and we continue to promote mask use, proper hygiene, and social distancing.

The study examined YMCA fitness centers between Sept. 4 and Nov. 30, 2020. Of nearly 1.3 million visits to 89 YMCA locations across North Carolina, there were 57 COVID cases – a positivity rate of just .0045%. The study was conducted by the NC Alliance of YMCAs.

The fact that no clusters have been traced to YMCA fitness centers is a bright spot considering our Y’s struggle to balance substantial revenue losses with an unprecedented demand for critical services like childcare, remote learning support, feeding programs, and outreach to seniors.

As a nonprofit leader in community health, we encourage you to do your part to keep yourself and others safe. You can learn more about our safety protocols here.
