Each class is designed to give your body a great workout while taking away the stress that comes with land-based experiences. These classes combine water resistance exercise with aerobic activity for a total body workout.
To register for our regular water fitness classes:
Stop by the front desk to purchase a water fitness punch card (except for specialty aquatic exercise classes, like our Aquatic Boot Camp).
Punch cards are issued once you register. Each card is good for 16 punches and expires within 60 days. You will hand your punch card to the lifeguard on duty who will keep track of your visits by punching your card each class you attend. Swim Lessons for Diverse Abilities
The Y is dedicated to elevating and promoting equity within communities around the country, guaranteeing fair treatment, access, opportunity, and advancement for all, while striving to identify and eliminate barriers that have prevented full participation of some groups. Through this swimming program, parents and caregivers of children with diverse abilities will be given the opportunity to provide their children with the means to learn fundamental water safety and swimming skills in a safe environment. Knowing how to be safe around water is one of the most important life skills we can teach our children. It gives them confidence. And it can save their lives.
The Reidsville YMCA will be offering Diverse Abilities Swim Lessons to start in October. The goal of the program is to offer water safety and swimming lessons in a safe, inclusive environment for all participants. Program is intended for youth aged 4-12 with a developmental, intellectual, and/or physical disability. Limited spots are available.
What We Teach
Using the evidence-based Y-USA Swim Lesson and Y-USA Safety Around Water curriculums, the YMCA Diverse Abilities Swim Lesson program is designed to reach children at risk of drowning and teach them basic water safety and swimming skills. Children will be placed in a skill and ability-specific program based on their needs. Learning to stay safe around water may begin at the Y, but it doesn't end there. That's why there is a Family Education Component that reinforces the learning at home and helps children progress more quickly.
Before beginning the program, we are asking parents/caregivers to complete an intake form outlining their child’s needs/goals. We’ll review the form together with you to determine the best track for your child — group, small group, or private lessons. Our unique approach to the intake process will allow us to focus on each individual’s unique abilities ensuring all participants gain the skills needed to be safe around water and learn to swim.
