2020 Sports Camps - Parent Questions and Answers

In a changing and uncertain time due to COVID-19, it's important to us that parents feel their children will be safe and secure at camp. The YMCA of Greensboro is taking careful precautions to ensure that children are kept safe, happy and healthy when participating in our programs.

Will my child be safe participating in sports camps?

Safety is our number one priority. We are implementing safety precautions based on guidance from national, state and local health officials.

What safety precautions will the YMCA of Greensboro be taking?

  • We will be following all government-mandated regulations and safety guidelines, including those from the NC Department of Health, to ensure every child attending our sports camps is kept safe and healthy.
  • All YMCA staff will undergo daily health screenings and temperature checks when they arrive to work.
  • Campers will be asked wellness questions prior to being dropped by their parent or guardian and temperature checked. If campers are feeling sick, then they will be asked not to participate in camp.
  • A staff member will regularly ask children to disinfect their hands using hand sanitizer containing at least 60% alcohol.
  • Camp staff will discourage children from gathering in groups.
  • Campers will need to bring their own labeled water bottles to camp each day.
  • Sports fields will have markings to designate spaces at least 6 feet apart and ensure proper social distancing.
  • Sports camps will maintain a 9:1 camper to staff ratio while also maintaining social distancing.
  • Staff and participants will wear a face mask at all times.
  • Only campers and staff who are required for daily operations will be permitted in camp space, such as fields.
  • Children are recommended to bring their own equipment, labeled with their name, to camp. If they are unable to bring their own, campers will be given equipment only for their own use.
  • All shared equipment will be cleaned and disinfected between uses.
  • At the end of each camp session, camp staff will thoroughly clean each area used.
