After School Care at the Y
The Y has worked in the childcare and after school space for years. As part of our YMCA after school programs, our holistic approach helps children improve study habits and reading skills, build healthy eating and physical activity habits, and gain exposure to the arts, STEM (science, technology, engineering and math), global learning, and more.
After School at the Y can turn the hours after school into a productive learning time and make learning fun. At the YMCA of Greensboro, our after school care and afterschool programs provide safety and supervision to help children continue to learn, grow, and thrive. Our Ys offer member discounts on after school care for youth enrolled in Kindergarten through Middle School.

2026-2027 After School Offerings
This information is for the 2026-27 school year. Financial assistance is available for families who qualify. Our after school care and afterschool program offerings serve youth enrolled in kindergarten through middle school.
Please allow a minimum of two (2) business days after registration before your child may begin attending. This allows time to update rosters, coordinate transportation, and communicate with schools and staff.

Our After School option provides a safe, supportive and enriching environment for youth on regular school days and early release days. Families can feel confident knowing their children are engaged in purposeful programming that nurtures social-emotional growth, academic support, and healthy relationship building.
Each afternoon, youth participate in hands-on activities including homework support, creative arts, STEAM exploration, youth choice, movement-based activities, and character development experiences that promote caring, honesty, respect, responsibility, and emotional management. Early release days are thoughtfully structured to provide additional enrichment opportunities while maintaining a consistent and caring routine.
This option offers families reliable, high-quality care during the traditional school week.

Our After School Plus+ option provides comprehensive support designed to meet the evolving needs of working families. In addition to daily after school care and early release coverage, this option includes All Day, full day programming during teacher workdays, select holidays, seasonal camps (Holiday/Winter and Spring Break), and inclement weather care when available.
Families benefit from knowing their youth have consistent access to a trusted YMCA environment, even when school is not in session. All Day experiences are intentionally designed with expanded enrichment opportunities such as STEAM projects, arts and creativity, leadership development, career exploration, global learning, and lots of active play. These extended days allow youth to deepen friendships, build resilience, and strengthen independence in a structured and nurturing setting.
This option provides peace of mind through continuity of care, predictable scheduling, and meaningful programming that supports the needs of families, even during unexpected school schedule disruptions.

Financial assistance is available for families who qualify for help with ymca after school care cost. Applications can take up to three weeks for processing.
