Free Community Health Screenings

Greensboro, N.C., June 3, 2025 — The YMCA of Greensboro, in collaboration with the North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University (NC A&T State University) School of Nursing, is excited to announce the return of Wellness Wednesdays—a free, community-focused health initiative taking place weekly this summer in Guilford County and Rockingham County.
Wellness Wednesdays will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the following dates: June 4, 11, 18, 25 and July 2, 9, 16, and 23 at both the Bryan Family YMCA at 501 W Market Street in Greensboro and Eden Family YMCA at 301 S Kennedy Street in Eden.
“Whether you're a senior tracking your blood pressure, a parent learning about nutrition, or a young adult focused on staying active—Wellness Wednesdays has something for you,” said Angela Rogers, Director of Community Health and Wellness at the YMCA of Greensboro. “It’s an easy and welcoming way to take control of your health.”
This engaging, drop-in program is open to individuals of all ages and includes:
- Free health screenings to check vital health indicators
- Interactive wellness education sessions for all generations
- New health topics and hands-on activities featured each week
- Expert guidance from NC A&T State University nursing students and faculty
This initiative highlights the YMCA’s ongoing commitment to building healthier communities through education, access to care, and meaningful partnerships.
Program Update: Impact Since Launch
Since the launch of this initiative, we’ve seen inspiring engagement and outcomes across our YMCA community. Here’s how we’ve made an impact together:
- 200+ Members Served with an average of 21 participants per session.
- 159 Blood Pressure Screenings; 63 individuals met hypertension criteria (40%).
- 117 Blood Glucose Checks; 36% showed prediabetes indicators.
- Youth engagement at Eden Family YMCA with summer campers who enjoyed interactive wellness education including dental hygiene, MyPlate nutrition, and more!
- Health education visibility with NC A&T State University Nursing students placed in YMCA facility common areas to increase member participation and awareness.
- Every branch visit was supported by 8 NC A&T State University Nursing students and 1 faculty supervisor to ensure smooth operations and high-quality service.
Looking ahead, we’re excited to expand data collection and continue evolving our mental health support offerings.
As we continue building momentum through our health outreach efforts, we’re excited to announce the continuation of Wellness Wednesdays running weekly from September 3 through December 3, 2025, at the Reidsville Family YMCA and Spears Family YMCA. Sessions will take place every Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., offering on-site health screenings, wellness resources, and opportunities to engage with nursing students.
Looking ahead to 2026, we plan to host this free screening event at the Stoney Creek Express YMCA and Ragsdale Family YMCA ins the spring and to the Hayes-Taylor Memorial YMCA in the summer.
