The Power of Showing Up
When Gerry Johnson first started personal training at the YMCA 13 years ago, she thought it might be a six-week experience to learn what exercises to do on her own. Instead, she found something that became a lasting part of her life. Personal training helps Gerry stay strong physically and emotionally, especially as a senior, while supporting her ability to continue doing the things she loves. She also enjoys the connections she has made at the Y, where there are always new people to meet. Over time, Gerry’s enthusiasm for personal training grew so much that she began sharing the experience with friends, including Joyce, whom she encouraged to give it a try.
Joyce has now been personal training for nine years and values having support as she works toward her health goals. After living with osteoporosis, she found personal training helpful in improving her health. She also appreciates how her trainer challenges her to keep going, increase her weights, and make progress beyond what she might push herself to do alone. For both Gerry and Joyce, personal training is about more than exercise. It is about building strength, staying healthy, and having the support to keep moving forward. Their journeys show how the right encouragement can make a lasting difference, and how sharing a positive experience can inspire others to invest in their own well-being.
