Ellie Hunt and her identical twin Gracie joined GCY's National Prep group in August 2017 under coach Sarah Ramerez.

Throughout the fall, Ellie showed rapid growth and improvement in her swimming. When Coach Ramerez left the team to further her education, the twins joined Coach Stuart Moffitt's National Prep group. Ellie's training continued to show improvement, leading to a strong performance at the NC Age Group Championship in Charlotte in March. Her 3rd place finish in the 500 Freestyle earned her a "Golden Ticket" invitation to NC Swimming's Select Camp held in the spring. Over the summer's Long Course Season, Ellie became one of the top 11-12 year old female swimmers in the state, setting team freestyle records, achieving top times at Greensboro's City Meet and NC Swimming's Long Course Age Group Championships. She was invited to represent NC Swimming at the prestigious Southern Zone Long Course Age Group Championships - one of eight 11-12 girls selected statewide. With sponsorship from GCY and The Y's aquatics program,  Ellie traveled to Midland Texas in July to compete among some of the fastest swimmers in the country.

Ellie attributes much of her success to the challenging training and guidance provided by her coaches, and to her National Prep teammates. Their dedication and hard work has kept Ellie motivated to be a top swimmer for the Makos.
