Eden Camp and After-school
Our goal is to provide a warm, safe and engaging environment where children can discover who they are by participating in meaningful activities and experiences.
All after-school programs have been postponed due to COVID-19. We will run these programs when we reopen.
At the Eden YMCA Camp, our goal is to provide a warm, safe and engaging environment where children can discover who they are, develop lifelong friendships and gain skills they’ll use for a lifetime. Our one-of-a-kind weekly sessions offer field trips to awesome area attractions, like the zoo, and daily swimming.
WHY THE Y: Discover that summer is MORE than beach trips and sunscreen! At YMCA camp, summer is all about achievement, relationships and belonging!
Safety comes first at YMCA camp, ensuring your child is provided a high-quality camp experience:
• Our staff is certified in CPR and First Aid and must pass a background check and drug screen.
• We offer a 1:10 counselor-to-camper ratio, which means more meaningful interaction with your child.
• Pre-summer staff trainings on child safety, healthy discipline, positive reinforcement, character development, games, songs and child abuse prevention ensure the best possible experience for your camper!
Campers will be separated based on the following age groups:
5-6 years, 7-8 years, 9-10 years, 11-12 years

Through a holistic approach to development, Eden YMCA’s after-school program provides kids #TimetoExplore by combining academics with play and offering a caring and safe environment where youth can achieve, feel a sense of belonging, build friendships and explore new interests. When kids attend after-school programs at the Y, they improve their study habits and reading skills; build healthy eating and physical activity habits, gain exposure to the arts, STEM (science, technology, engineering and math), global learning and more.
Objective: Your child will participate in a healthy and safe environment! Our counselors encourage respect for self and others, trust, honesty and self-confidence.
Goals: To help children develop to the fullest of their God-given potential; to strengthen the family unit; to provide a safe, caring and fun environment; to provide a growth-oriented experience based on each child's needs and abilities; to emphasize and educate the importance of health and fitness.
Age: The Eden YMCA offers member discounts on after-school care and offers two options for care for kids Kindergarten through 5th grade.
After-school takes place at the participating school sites. Should schools decide to close early, we may be asked to transport childcare participants to the YMCA.
All day child care programs are also available when Rockingham County Schools are closed for teacher workdays.
After School Hours: Monday-Friday school dismissal–6:00 pm
After-school care will operate from school dismissal until 6:00 pm. After 6:00 pm, your child will be taken to the YMCA by the counselor from the site and a late fee will be charged (see program fees). The program will remain open on teacher workdays, some snow days (see snow policy) and most holidays from 7:00 am until 6:00 pom at the YMCA site if we have a minimum of 12 participants. You must register your child to participate on teacher workdays, some snow days and most holidays if you plan to use care on those days.
Teacher Workday Hours: 7:00 am – 6:00 pm
The after school, holidays and breaks follow the Rockingham County School schedule.
The Eden YMCA After School program will operate at two separate sites: Central and Leaksville-Spray. If enough families express interest, we will also add Douglass. If school is closed, all sites attend the YMCA – snow days, teacher workdays, etc. On early release days, children remain at the school site.
* Please note the availability of sites requires a minimum average daily attendance.
Snow Policy: Check WFMY News 2 for YMCA opening and closing times. If the YMCA opens at 9:00 a.m. or later, there will be NO CHILDCARE, that day. Your child must be registered for snow days in order to come to the Y on snow days.
