YOUTH & GOVERNMENT

"Democracy must be learned by each generation."
-- YMCA NC Youth & Government motto

Greensboro Metro YMCA Teens and Government at 2005 Conference

The Youth and Government Program enables young people to prepare for academic, community and political leadership through training in the theory and practice of public policy.

Each February students from across North Carolina meet at the state capital for a four-day mock legislative conference, YMCA Youth and Government Legislature. While there the students debate the bills they prepared during the school year, elect a student governor, and share in fellowship. The program is coordinated by the YMCA of the Triangle in Raleigh, and through local schools and YMCAs.

Youth and Government

This year, the YMCA of Greensboro was represented by 50 students from Dudley High School, who met each week throughout the school year with their club advisors. The students learned about debate, public speaking, parliamentary procedure, sharpened their leadership skills and improved their problem solving and critical thinking abilities.
