TEEN PROGRAMS

Action 68 After-School Program

An after-school program designed for grades 6 through 8 will be offered through the new Alex W. Spears III Family YMCA, located at 3216 Horse Pen Creek Road. The program allows middle school students to have fun in a safe, supervised environment. Participants will have a snack provided, time set aside for homework, and organized activities including: basketball, swimming, community service projects, character development, and Friday field trips.

 

Black Achievers

The Black Achievers Program is a teen mentoring program for 8th through 12th graders. It meets twice a month at Hayes-Taylor Memorial YMCA for career counseling and development of leadership skills. The group works to help build self-esteem and to promote goal building for the future of our youth.

NC Middle School United Nations Assembly

A model United Nations Programs is an exciting educational opportunity for middle school students to learn about global issues. Participants assume the roles of diplomatic representatives to the UN as they consider international concerns.

 

School: Mendenhall Middle School

 

Y-Teens

A middle and high school service learning program, the Y-Teens allows students to explore ways they can improve the community. Once a month the students take their developed plans, implement them, and turn them into reality as they perform various projects throughout Greensboro and the surrounding area.

 

Schools & YMCAs: Allen Middle, Southeast Middle, Jackson Middle, and Jamestown Middle Schools and Hayes-Taylor YMCA.

 

Youth & Government

The program enables young people to prepare for academic, community and political leadership through training in the theory and practice of public policy. The program is coordinated by the YMCA of the Triangle in Raleigh, and through local schools and YMCAs. Students have the opportunity to participate in the North Carolina Youth In Government Conference scheduled for February in Raleigh.
