Greensboro Community YMCA Swim Team

GCY is an extension of the Bryan Family YMCA, GCY is designed to accommodate anyone interested in a positive swimming experience, from a new age grouper, to the highly motivated national level senior groups. We even offer adult swimming with our Masters program. Keep in mind that this is a year-round competitive swim team. All team workouts and meet schedules have been carefully planned by a professional coaching staff and are executed in a group setting.

For the beginner, the program provides quality instruction on the basic stroke mechanics, turns, starts, and race strategy. Several meets are scheduled within easy driving distance from Greensboro, so that new competitors can test their skills in a low-key, positive atmosphere.

The age group swimming levels are the places where youngsters should learn efficient stroke mechanics, which are necessary to advance in the sport of swimming. As the swimmer develops and goes from these levels into the senior groups, he/she will have a sturdy framework of efficient strokes upon which he/she can continue to build conditioning and speed from.

GCY is founded on the belief that competitive swimming offers an exciting and valuable experience in a person’s life. Our mission statement is "The GCY Swim Team offers a multi-level competitive program that stresses individual improvement in both skills and achievements while learning to train and compete as a member of a team that lives by the YMCA core values.” Whether an athlete joins GCY to improve physical conditioning, to prepare for high school swimming, or to race at the national or collegiate level, GCY will provide the training that allows each athlete to realize his or her goals. GCY swimmers grow in many life skills; goal setting, balanced competitiveness, teamwork, self-motivation, and discipline. Members also learn the rewards of working hard by continually improving their times.
